What a search shows

Type a kind of business, like “barber” or “plumber”, and your city. SiteSprout lists the businesses there and checks each one. This is what the results look like (illustration with made-up names):

How SiteSprout finds them

Then it ranks them. Businesses with many reviews, a good rating and a phone number or email go first, because they're busy, reachable and most likely to value a website. Businesses marked as closed drop to the bottom.

How to find businesses without websites for free (by hand)

  1. Search Google Maps for a kind of business plus your city, like “barber Kent WA”.
  2. Open each listing and look for the website button next to Call and Directions.
  3. No button? That's a business without a website. Note the name and phone number.
  4. There's a button? Tap it. If it fails to load, shows an error, or opens a Facebook page, note that too.
  5. Check reviews. Put the businesses with the most reviews at the top of your list.

It works, but it's slow: 20 businesses can take half an hour. That's the part SiteSprout does in seconds.

Other good places to look: local Facebook groups, Yelp, your chamber of commerce directory, and simply walking down a main street and noticing which shops you can't find online.

Found some. What next?

Make each business a quick preview of what its website could look like, send the owner a short honest message, and follow up. Our guide walks through it step by step: how to get web design clients.

Please contact businesses one at a time, as yourself, and stop when someone says no. Read the outreach rules.

Questions

Is there a list of businesses without websites?

Not one that stays accurate. Businesses open, close and add websites all the time, so a bought list goes stale fast. A live search of your area, checked when you search, is more reliable. Lists are also often used for bulk outreach, which our outreach rules don't allow.

How do I find businesses without websites near me for free?

Search a kind of business and your city on Google Maps, open each listing and look for a website button. If there isn't one, or the link is broken or goes to a Facebook page, write it down. SiteSprout's free plan does the same with map data, up to 25 searches a day.

Are businesses without websites good clients?

Often, yes, especially busy ones with good reviews. They already have customers and income, and a website helps more people find and contact them. Some owners don't want a website, and that's fine. Ask, show a preview and respect their answer.

Is it legal to contact businesses I find this way?

Contacting a business one-to-one, honestly and as yourself, is generally fine. Bulk emails, automated texts and robocalls have strict rules, and in the US automated texts and calls need consent. See our outreach rules, and check your local laws. This isn't legal advice.

Which kinds of businesses most often have no website?

In many areas: barbers and salons, cleaners and handymen, auto repair, food trucks and small restaurants, and other owner-run service businesses. Search a few kinds in your city and compare. It varies a lot by place.

What does SiteSprout check besides “no website”?

Whether the website is down or broken, whether the listing only links to a social page, and whether the site lacks HTTPS. It also looks at reviews, rating, and whether a phone number or email is listed, to put the best leads first.
